Span 310 Introduction

Hi all,
I’m Rita Donn. This is my last year studying the Post-degree diploma in Romance Languages in French and Spanish at VIU. I’m currently teaching Spanish 7,8 at two francophone schools up island: one in Campbell River and the other in Comox, where I live.
I painted this landscape several years after I returned from studying high school and living in Sant Cugat del Vallés, Spain, where I have left behind several of my cousins. Behind the mountains lies Barcelona, only a 20 min. train ride away or an hour by car along a treacherous winding highway. In a way this explains how so many cultures in Spain were allowed to keep their own identity, as they were well isolated and protected from surrounding communities by the physical geography.
I look forward to learning more about the history of the diverse cultural groups that make up Spain and that have fought throughout time to maintain their differences in language and culture.

Looking forward to reading your posts,

Rita
